Communications outage after lightning storms

Like many in the county this morning, The Orcadian has no internet connection and intermittent phone problems after thunder and lightning storms in the county overnight.

At present we can receive some phone calls, but can not phone out of the building. At present, we are also unable to send or receive email.

Meanwhile, Kirkwall police tweeted earlier this morning that, at present, the emergency services are only contactable via mobile phone.
