Company’s liquidation is a ‘major blow to Orkney’
Friday’s news that Currie Brothers Ltd has gone into voluntary liquidation has been described by OIC convener, Councillor Steven Heddle, as “a major blow to Orkney” adding that the council will do all it can to support those affected.
Councillor Heddle said: “To hear that an Orcadian business has had to close, is a major blow for Orkney. Currie Brothers has been a contractor on a number of major Orkney projects over the last few years, including the council’s development of a renewables base in Lyness. However the current financial climate is difficult and we, unfortunately, should not be surprised for it to have a knock-on effect throughout our local economy.
“Orkney Islands Council will do all that it can to support those affected, particularly through our Development Services and Business Gateway.”
