Cost of parking going up on Saturday

parkingsignThe cost of using the OIC’s car parks goes up tomorrow, Saturday.

In Kirkwall’s four main car parks — Albert Street, Castle Street, St Magnus Lane and Gunn’s Close — one hour’s parking from May to September will increase from 40p to 50p; two hours will increase from 70p to £1.20; and three hours from £1.50 to £2.50.

One-hour free parking in these car parks from October to April will continue, with two hours in the winter increasing from 50p to £1.20, and three hours going from £1.50 to £2.50.

At the Burgh Road and Great Western Road (North) car parks, there is the choice of either up to four  or eight hours’ parking — costing £1 and £1.50 respectively.

There are changes in Stromness, too.  In the summer months, at the Ferry Inn car park, charges will increase from 40p to 50p for an hour, 70p to £1.20 for two hours, and £1.50 to £2.50 for three hours.

There will continue to be one-hour free car parking in the winter, and then a 50p to £1.20 increase for two hours and a £1.50 to £2.50 increase for three hours.

For drivers using the Stromness Ferry Terminal car park, stays of up to four hours will increase all year round to £1 from 80p, with stays of four to eight hours going from £1 to £1.50.
