Council launches Energy Strategy survey
Orkney Islands Council has launched a survey today to help steer the final development of a new Energy Strategy for Orkney.
During the development of the strategy, representatives from local industry, academia, communities and the public sector have held detailed discussions at an initial symposium and two follow-up workshops.
Informal consultation sessions have also been undertaken with communities in the North and South Isles, where residents had the chance to put forward opinions and suggested priorities for the way ahead.
“A significant number of ideas have been shared through the process to date,” said Jan Falconer, Orkney Islands Council’s head of strategic development and regeneration.
“The Energy Strategy is intended for Orkney as a whole, with the council one of many of participants in delivering the necessary outcomes. It will chart how our community should make best use of our considerable energy resources and tackle a range of energy issues.”
She added: “To ensure we have a full understanding of what matters most to people and organisations in Orkney, we would welcome feedback through the survey.
“It covers the four main areas that have emerged so far – low carbon, transport, affordable warmth and energy security – and provides plenty of opportunities for contributors to share views and ideas.
“We hope as many people as possible will take the time to complete the survey, as we want the Energy Strategy to represent as fully as possible the aspirations and ambitions of our community.”
