The cargo ship Skog which was at the centre of a major air and sea rescue operation yesterday is pictured safely tied up at Hatston Pier this morning, Wednesday.

The 99m long vessel, with 10 crew on board, broke down, was drifting, and was taking on water north of Orkney yesterday. Lifeboats from Stromness and Kirkwall were involved in the rescue, as was a Coastguard helicopter, as pumps were ferried to the ship.

The ship was towed to Kirkwall by the Coastguard tug and assisted alongside by two Orkney Towage tugs and the pilot boat Kirkwall Bay in the early hours of this morning, and was alongside by 3am.

Further details in The Orcadian on Thursday.
