The festive season is near – and Stromness gets the ball rolling

Stromness gets the festive season under way as usual with the first of the county's Christmas Tree lighting ceremonies.

The first Christmas Tree lighting ceremony in the county gets under way tonight, with Stromness turning on the lights at 6pm.

On Friday it’s the turn of St Margaret’s Hope, followed by Burray and Holm on Saturday.

Next week, Stenness’s tree will be illuminated on Wednesday, with Dounby, Finstown and Shapinsay on Friday.

Kirkwall’s tree lighting, on Saturday, December 5, will also feature a concert in St Magnus Cathedral, O Magnum Mysterium.

Next Saturday will also see the lights going on in Flotta and Westray.
