Council leaders shortlisted for Scottish Politician of the Year awards
The three Leaders of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Shetland Islands and Orkney Islands Councils have been shortlisted in The Herald’s Scottish Politician of the Year Awards
Angus Campbell, Gary Robinson and Steven Heddle have been listed jointly in the Local Politician category for their work on the Our Islands Our Future campaign.
The campaign has seen the three councils join forces to press the Scottish and UK Governments for more powers before and after the Independence Referendum in September 2014.
Orkney Islands Council chief executive Alistair Buchan said: “As far as our convener is concerned, over the last eight months I have witnessed at first hand the tireless commitment, the ability and the leadership shown by Steven Heddle in pursuit of our campaign. We are all proud of his nomination and wish all three leaders every success for the awards.”
The awards are presented at Prestonfield House, in Edinburgh, on November 14.
