Council welcomes Stromness police counter u-turn
Orkney Islands Council has welcomed news that the Scottish Police Authority (SPA) has reversed plans to remove a public police counter in Stromness.
Councillor Andrew Drever, chairman of the OIC’s police and fire sub-committee, said: “The provision of a police presence in Stromness is highly valued by the local community. We’re pleased to be able to move on now from this uncertainty and progress our plans to provide a police counter, with shared OIC and police staffing, within the council’s new Stromness Pierhead project.”
Stromness Councillor James Stockan added: “We presented a strong case for this and I am delighted with the outcome. I am confident that the end result will be an excellent example of partnership working for the good of our community.”
