Creative Orkney shortlisted for award

Orkney has been shortlisted for a  Creative Place award.

The county is in the running for the largest of three awards, the winners of which will be announced in January next year.

The award is accompanied by a cash sum of £150,000 to enhance the creative programme of the winning place.

The award would be managed by the council’s arts service, and a steering group from the Orkney Arts Forum, and would be used in a variety of ways:

  • to support emerging initiatives in Orkney in drama and film
  • to collaborate with the RSPB and Outdoor Orkney to add creative strands to the new Orkney Nature Festival in 2013, contributing to the Year of Natural Scotland 2013
  • to enhance the year-long celebrations of the bi-centenary of John Rae
  • to manage a focused projects pot, to which organisations and festivals could apply, to enhance their activities

A delegation from Orkney will travel to Edinburgh on December 3 to make a presentation on the bid and to discuss Orkney’s application further.
