Creative Scotland grant boosts festival piano fund
The St Magnus International Festival has been awarded £44,976 from Creative Scotland.
The grant is towards the purchase of equipment for the festival’s volunteer stage crew and a new Steinway Concert Grand Piano.
The festival has already raised over £15,000 by public subscription for the piano and has made an application to Orkney Islands Council for further funding to buy this equipment.
According to the festival committee, as well as providing a first class instrument, which will help to attract world-class musicians to Orkney, the piano will be a community resource. It will be available for other concerts and recitals and will give local pianists and students the opportunity to use a top-of-the-range piano.
