Deputy Prime Minister heads north for Grimond Centenary Weekend
This year sees the centenary of former Orkney Liberal MP Jo Grimond’s birth, and local party members have organised a weekend of events to commemorate his contribution to political and community life in the county and beyond.
The programme includes a Grimond Lecture, to be given by Lord Steel of Aikwood, at Firth Kirk tomorrow, Saturday, followed by a panel discussion with prominent Liberal Democrats, Lord Steel, Lord Wallace, Baroness Bonham-Carter and Scottish party leader Willie Rennie MSP, chaired by Orkney MSP Liam McArthur.
In the evening, there will be a Grimond Centenary Dinner, with the deputy prime minister Nick Clegg MP as guest speaker, at the Pickaquoy Centre.
