Three events means a busy weekend for Kirkwall

Kirkwall will be busy this weekend, with three events highlighting promoting the wide range of services and products available locally.

Today, Saturday, sees the Kirkwall BID group run its May Mix — “a day of attractions, offers and fun” — to tempt shoppers into the town centre.

The event runs from 11am and will see music on the street, vintage vehicles, pavement and pavement art, as well as discounts and offers from the town centre traders.

Meanwhile, up at the Mart, the focus is on the garden, with local businesses getting together for a two-day gardening exhibition. The event, which runs from 10.30am until 4pm on Saturday and Sunday, will also see an exhibition of local craftwork in the upstairs foyer.

Also this weekend, the Rotary Club’s Ideal Homes exhibition is taking place at the Pickaquoy Centre.

Ronnie Johnson, president of the Orkney Rotary Club, firmly believes that the event provides an excellent example of the wide range of quality wares available at competitive prices.

“Whenever we hold this show, it never ceases to amaze me how innovative the local businesses are, as there are always new product ranges on display, thus proving there really is no need to source the internet nor look any further than our island for an excellent deal.”
