Deputy Prime Minister heads north for Grimond weekend

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg MP will be visiting the county in May, as part of a weekend of events to commemorate former Orkney MP Jo Grimond.

This year sees the centenary of Jo Grimond’s birth and local Liberal Democrats will celebrating his contribution to political and community life in the county and beyond.

The programme includes a Grimond Lecture, to be given by Lord Steel of Aikwood, at Firth Kirk on Saturday, May 18, followed by a panel discussion with prominent Liberal Democrats, Lord Steel, Lord Wallace, Baroness Bonham-Carter and Scottish party leader Willie Rennie MSP, chaired by Orkney MSP Liam McArthur.

In the evening, there will be a Grimond Centenary Dinner, with the deputy prime minister Nick Clegg MP as guest speaker, at the Pickaquoy Centre.
