E.coli O157 investigation update

No further cases have been identified in the joint e.coli O157 investigation by NHS Orkney and Orkney Islands Council.

The total remains at four cases and all are at home.

Dr Louise Wilson, director of public health at NHS Orkney, said: “To date, we have found no direct link connecting all the cases, indeed three of the cases had no symptoms and were only identified as e.coli O157 positive through the ongoing screening.

“E.coli infections can be linked to food, or the environment, or both, and our joint investigation continues to look at these. We thank everyone who has helped, and is helping us, for their patience and understanding.”
