Emergency housing situation drives tenant to despair

Among the complaints of the resident is the level of damp and mould in the property.

“Dire and depressing” is how one Orkney Islands Council (OIC) emergency housing tenant has described the last seven months of her life.

While the tenant has called into question the rate of rent for the accommodation, and criticised its “damp” condition, the council says it endeavours to keep the time spent in temporary housing to a minimum.
