Energy efficiency measures could help keep heat in Orkney homes
Energy efficiency measures suitable for some of Orkney’s older homes will be explored at a public event hosted by Orkney Renewable Energy Forum (OREF) tonight, Monday.
Roger Curtis, of Historic Scotland’s conservation group, will share findings from his investigations into what interventions are appropriate for traditionally constructed buildings.
Also on the bill for the event is Linda Forbes, of Stromness-based Scribbilib Consultancy Ltd. Ms Forbes has MSc degrees in architecture (advanced environmental and energy studies) from the University of East London, and in renewable energy development from Heriot-Watt University’s ICIT campus in Stromness, where her thesis was on renewable heat and district heating applications in coastal communities.
OREF director Robert Leslie said: “I saw Roger talk about his work at an energy efficiency event in Inverness last year and felt that it would be relevant to Orkney, with its older housing stock.
“Linda, meanwhile, has a wide range of contacts in the energy efficiency and sustainable building world, and is currently regional meeting group leader in Scotland for the Association for Environment Conscious Building.”
The event takes place in room three of Kirkwall and St Ola Community Centre at 7pm on Monday, March 5. Entry is free to OREF members, £1 for non-members.
