Energy North members meet in Kirkwall

Trade body Energy North hosted a members’ meeting in Kirkwall today, Thursday.

At the gathering, the organisation shared its plans for 2013 and asked attendees to define what role they think Energy North should provide on their behalf following the division of the larger Caithness and Orkney members’ group.

Speaking before the meeting, Ian Couper, chief executive of Energy North, said: “During February, we will be holding a series of meetings throughout the north of Scotland to discuss the year ahead and address major issues affecting members, particularly those concerning the grid and interconnector and the fulfilment of ‘local content’ requirements by contractors.

“Both matters are of prime importance to Energy North and its members, and we are currently in discussion with key agencies, including the National Grid.

“We would also like Orkney members to specify the role they want Energy North to play on their behalf. The group used to include North Highland businesses as well, but the energy potential of both Orkney and Caithness has grown so much we decided two separate groups were required going forward.”

Energy North is a not-for-profit trade group of over 150 members in the oil and gas, renewable energy and nuclear markets.
