Errors and fraud costs OIC over £18,000
Errors and fraud cost Orkney Islands Council over £18,000 last year.
The figures were highlighted at yesterday’s meeting of the council’s monitoring and audit committee, where members noted a report on the National Fraud Initiative in Scotland.
Of the 24 cases detected — relating to housing benefit awards, occupational pensions, and tenancy agreements — 21 were reported as errors.
However, the committee noted that three cases of fraud had cost the local authority over £5,200.
