Factory to be advertised for lease

Orkney Islands Council looking for a new tenant for the Stromness factory unit previously used by the Orkney Herring Company.

The building, in the Garson Industrial Estate, has become available following the decision by Orkney Herring to cease trading and appoint a liquidator.

OIC chief executive Albert Tait said: “It is regrettable that this has happened to a company that enjoyed an excellent reputation for its products.

“We now hope that a new tenant for the building will be found in the near future and that this might provide new employment opportunities in the town.”
