Orkney Ferries boss asks for customer co-operation

Orkney Ferries is asking customers for their co-operation as part of efforts to maintain a three-vessel service for the Outer North Isles.

In recent weeks, the company has faced a number of difficulties including industrial action.

These have now combined with other staffing problems, including a number of absences through sickness.

“Our over-riding priority is to provide the best possible service to the communities we serve,” said ferry services manager Captain Alistair Wylie.

“To maintain a three-vessel service to the Outer North Isles, some on board services may not operate as normal in the days ahead.

“The cafeterias may not be open on all of the vessels and issuing tickets may take a little longer than usual.

“The company is doing everything possible to minimise disruption and the patience of customers travelling with us will be gratefully appreciated.

“We would ask people to listen out for on board announcements giving further details.”
