Second place success – Stromness do Orkney proud at SCDA finals
Stromness Drama Club’s production of Jock and Blind Mary, by George Mackay Brown, almost swept the boards at the Scottish Community Drama’s 89th festival of One Act Plays.
Taking home the trophies for Best Stage Decor, portrayal of Scottish life and Character, and highest Marks for Direction, Stromness just missed out to Fintry Amateur Dramatic Society, who claimed first place leaving Stromness with the second place trophy.
Fintry, with thier production Housebound, will now will go on to represent Scotland in the British finals in Rhyl.
Adjudicator, Dave Bennet, stressed the judging process had been “very, very difficult”.
Summing up Stromness’s production he told the audience: “You are lucky to have been here to see that.” He also praised the play’s use of the stage, set and sound.
This years Scottish finals were held at Orkney Theatre, in Kirkwall, and saw eight and productions from across Scotland compete over three packed nights.
