Fourth case of e.coli confirmed
NHS Orkney and Orkney Islands Council say that in the course of their continuing investigations, they have identified a fourth confirmed case of e.coli O157.
In a statement today, NHS Orkney said that the fourth case has no symptoms and was only identified as being positive to the bug through the ongoing screening. None of those affected are in hospital.
Dr Ken Black, consultant in public health medicine at NHS Orkney, said: “Whilst we are continuing to look for the possible source or sources of the infection, we advise everyone to maintain vigilance concerning infection control and in being thorough in their hygiene — the spread of e.coli O157 infection can be prevented by following guidance on handling food and hand hygiene.
“As ever, anyone with health concerns should contact a health professional.”
