Graveside tribute to explorer

Tributes to Dr John Rae will be paid this afternoon at a special ceremony by his grave.

The event, which has been organised by  the recently founded John Rae Society, will include a tribute to Dr Rae by Ken McGoogan — the author of Fatal Passage: The Untold Story of John Rae and writer-in-residence for the Stromness Museum John Rae 200 Exhibition.

The ceremony is due to take place, at Dr Rae’s grave, in the eastern section of the the St Magnus Cathedral kirkyard, at 12.30pm.
