Green light for ‘Black Building’ housing scheme

Members of the OIC’s planning committee have approved a plan to erect four semi-detached houses and create eleven serviced sites at site of the former “Black Building” in Kirkwall.

There were concerns raised in the chamber by Councillor Steven Heddle, who pointed out that two access points from Berstane Road may be ill placed. Councillor Jim Foubister also queried the proper handling of run-off water and sewage management.

After assurances that both points would be addressed, the committee granted planning permission.
