Independent candidate joins General Election race
Shetland man Stuart Hill has announced that he will be standing as an independent candidate in Orkney and Shetland during next month’s General Election.
Mr Hill, who has long campaigned for Orkney and Shetland to become independent from the UK, describes himself as the “anti-establishment candidate” in the election.
He has said he is standing because the general election will be the only chance for the people of the islands to decide their own future.
He said: “While others are content to tinker around the edges of a system designed to penalise the poor and line the pockets of the rich, I am looking at a blank sheet and planning how things will be when we take our destiny into our own hands.”
This year’s General Election will take place on June 8.
