Internet safety on the agenda
Parent and carers across Orkney who want to build their confidence and learn more about internet safety, will be able to access free informative workshops on this subject in the coming months.
The workshops, being organised by the OIC, with assistance from partner agencies, are based on the ‘Thinkuknow’ programme which was developed by the UK Centre for Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP).
The workshops will be led by Orkney’s CEOP ambassador, Pete Nicol, who is a youth worker and manager of Orkney’s Youth Café. Janette Mackie from Get IT Together Orkney will also be attending sessions to offer support and advice to parents and carers who have little or no IT knowledge.
According to organisers, being able to discover and share the benefits of the internet and retain control, can give parents and carers the confidence to know their children are safe online.
Sessions are taking place in downy, North Walls, Kirkwall, Stromness and Holm.
