Accountant – Trainee Position

Scholes CA helps business owners to achieve success by providing them with the strategic, tax and accounting support they need to achieve their goals and overcome challenges. The firm advises entrepreneurial small-business owners across the UK, serviced from offices in Kirkwall, Edinburgh and Aberdeen.

Right now we have a vacancy in our Kirkwall office for a bright, hardworking individual who wishes to launch a career in accountancy. As a member of our talented team of dedicated and friendly business professionals, you will support local business owners by assisting in the delivery of:

•Management and financial accounts;
• Auditing financial statements;
• Bookkeeping and VAT return services;
• Business plans and cash flow projections; and
• Business and personal tax returns.

No prior experience is necessary as full training will be provided. However, we are a professional team and it is expected that the successful candidate will study for, and obtain, a full professional accounting qualification (Chartered Accountant). The role therefore includes financial support and appropriate study leave.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate all of the following capabilities:

•Strong attention to detail;
• Organised and efficient approach;
• Strong verbal and written communication skills;
• Ability to learn, retain and apply complex information;
• Supporting and working as part of a team.

You may be a recent graduate but this is not considered essential; you may alternatively have relevant work or other life experience that makes you suitable for the role.

A keen interest in commerce, and a desire to contribute to the small business community are of course essential attributes. On a personal level, you will have deep personal integrity; a friendly manner; commitment to the task; and strong communication skills. You will enjoy working both independently and in teams; you will also need to be comfortable in an environment where innovation is encouraged and change is a constant.
