Kirkwall pool celebrates 40 anniversary with fundraising swim
On Tuesday next week, October 2, it will be 40 years since Kirkwall Swimming Pool first opened.
As part of a week of celebrations, the pool staff are inviting folk to take part in a “40 Lengths for 40 Years” sponsored swim.
Patrons are invited to take part in the fundraising challenge to complete 40 lengths of the pool throughout next week, to raise money for the local Selkies disabled swimming group.
Pool manager Calvin Reid said: “A small and dedicated group of volunteers provide this invaluable service to those people who need it the most. These sessions provide therapy, a sense of freedom and offer huge health benefits. We would like to support the Selkies in the future by asking folk to take part in this special 40th anniversary event.”
Additional sessions will be provided during the week specifically for people to complete their sponsored swim, although any public session can be used to complete the swim. Participants who are raising money, through the use of the sponsor sheets, do not have to pay to enter the pool during their event swims.
Further Information and sponsor sheets are available from the pool reception desk or from kirkwall.pool@glow.orkneyschools.org.uk, or on Orkney Islands Council’s website www.orkney.gov.uk
