League leaders hoping to seal title in Orkney

Orkney FC will be hoping to play a major role in the destination of the North Caledonian League title as league leaders Halkirk United are set to visit Kirkwall in the leaders’ final league game of the season.

Halkirk lead Golspie Sutherland by three points with both teams level on goal difference, but an Orkney win would give Golspie the opportunity to snatch the league title on goal difference in an exciting finale. Orkney will be determined to avenge a recent 4-1 humbling away to the leaders, and will be buoyed by last weekend’s 3-2 victory over Thurso in the Ness Cup semi-final.

Golspie are due in action in the Jock Mackay Memorial Cup final on Saturday against Lewis & Harris but will be keeping a close eye on the result.

Orkney have two games to go in the league, and are currently six points behind third place Thurso, who have completed their league fixtures, with a lesser goal difference.

The match is due to kick off at 1.30pm on Saturday at the KGS 3G pitch.
