Man charged following vehicle thefts

A 47-year-old man has been charged with a number of offences after Police executed a warrant at an address in Kirkwall today, Saturday.

The search took place in relation to the thefts from vehicles that occurred on Thursday, March 24.

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.

Police Sergeant Bruce said: “I would like to thank members of public that came forward to assist us with our enquiries into these incidents which resulted in the action taken today.

“Thankfully these incidents are not a common occurrence within our community, but when they do occur I understand the impact it has on the victims, families and friends. We remain committed to bringing those responsible for crimes of dishonesty before the courts”

“I’d further like to remind people within the community to ensure, personal property is secured away out of sight and their vehicles and properties are kept secure to prevent similar incidents occurring in the future.  If you do have any concerns regarding suspicious activity then I ask you contact Kirkwall Police Station or telephone ‘101’ to report the matter.”
