Another win for Doonies after seven-hour battle

After a game lasting over seven hours, Doonie John Thomson has been held up as the winner of the 2012 Christmas Day Men’s Ba’.

After the 1pm throw, the Christmas Day pack moved the ba’ up and down Broad Street before it made its way down Albert Street, through the lane to the Castle Street car park and down to the Odin Stone shop, on Junction Road, where a break was made to the police station car park.

The ba’ then travelled across to the car park at the water front and was then moved down Ayre Road and to the mouth of the Shapinsay slip, where it was pushed into the water at 8.12pm.

After a hard fight in the water, John Thomson was lifted as the winner at 8.38pm.
