Messiah in St Magnus

The St Magnus Festival Chorus  will be joined by Orkney Camerata tonight,  for a performance of Handel’s great choral work Messiah.

The conductor for the St Magnus Cathedral performance is Martyn Brabbins, one of the UK’s most highly regarded conductors and a familiar figure at the St Magnus Festival.

The quartet of professional soloists includes Orcadian tenor Paul Rendall, who is currently based in Leeds, where he sings with Opera North.

Paul, from Kirkwall, said that the performance will take place 26 years and two days after his first appearance as tenor soloist in Messiah with the Orkney Choral Union in the old Phoenix Cinema.

As in previous years, proceeds from the performance will contribute towards the Malawi Music Fund, which aims to improve the lives of some of Malawi’s orphaned children through music and the arts.

The performance begins at 7.30pm.
