Millquoy Shetland brood mare is Dounby’s top horse
The overall champion horse at this year’s Dounby Show was the Shetland brood mare Millquoy Danielle, shown by J. & M. Slater of Millquoy, Stenness.
The 10-year-old horse was sired by Drum Director and out of the dam Millquoy Drummies Dancer.
The overall reserve was the best in-hand pony on the day, Hermits Desert Storm, exhibited by Martin Hourston and Toni Greene, Flaws, Marwick.
The four-year-old British Spotted Cob came to Orkney from Yorkshire and was bred by the Hermits Stud.
Judge Stephen Rendall, from Shetland, who is currently the president of the Shetland Pony Society, said: “It was close run. They were both two good ponies.
“They were the ones that all three judges decided on, coming forward, but the mare just had the edge on him.
“She had finesse, a nice sweet head and just showed herself well.”
