Musicians head to inaugural Westray Connections
An event to celebrate Westray’s musical heritage is to take place in Westray this weekend — Saturday, August 25 and Sunday, August 26.
Westray Connections is the brainchild of the Westray and Papa Westray Tourist Association and they have invited a variety of musicians — with some kind of connection to the island — to join with island-based musicians to create a showcase of musical talent.
The event kicks off today, at 11am, with a series of informal taster gigs taking place at venues throughout Pierowall village.
The culmination of the weekend’s events comes together in a large open event to take place in a marquee at the Pierowall Hotel from 2pm until 5pm.
Organisers hope to develop Westray Connections, allowing it to become a regular feature in the island’s calendar.
