New e.coli case identified
A new confirmed case of E. coli O157 infection has been identified, bringing the confirmed cases to five. This means seven cases in total are under investigation.
The original two confirmed cases of E. coli O157 are still receiving treatment in hospital. The other cases in the cluster have either recovered, or are recovering, at home.
Dr Louise Wilson, NHS Orkney director of public health, said: “The case confirmed today is a contact of a known case and their infection was identified as a result of our joint investigation. We remain vigilant and are continuing to investigate to find links between the cases.“
