No change to convener’s term of office
An attempt to reduce the term of office for an OIC council convener failed today.
Currently, the convener’s post runs for the period of that council, however, a number of councillors felt that was too long and they should look at an election every two years.
At today’s meeting of the full council, Councillor Jack Moodie and Councillor Steven Heddle pointed out that the in-post convener would be able to be re-elected, and if doing a good job, that was likely to happen. However, others felt that there was a need for continuity.
The amendment by Councillors Moodie and Heddle failed by six votes to 14.
