Northern Isles MSPs lobby on islands’ agriculture

The impact European farm policy will have on Orkney and Shetland was discussed this week in Brussels.

Northern Isles MSPs Liam McArthur and Tavish Scott highlighted the islands’ needs on Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) reform with the chairman of the European Parliament’s agriculture committee, Paulo de Castro MEP, in a meeting organised by Scottish Liberal Democrat MEP George Lyon.

Mr McArthur and Mr Scott also met the European Commission agriculture commissioner’s head of cabinet to press for a greater understanding in Brussels of the issues facing farmers in Orkney and Shetland.
