Not long until Boxing day Dips

The Boxing Day Dips at Scapa, Hoy, Stronsay and Westray are now almost here.

Joining Liam McArthur at Scapa are around 40 other brave souls ready to tackle the chilly waters in aid of CLIC Sargent.

Organiser Kenny Thomson said: “In Hoy Ann Sutherland has got a team together for the third year, and in Stronsay Carrie Stout has for the second year organised the dip there. There is also one organised for Westray too, so it’s all systems go, and we hope for a good turn out of spectators.”

Kenny added: “The musical entertainment at Scapa kicks off at 11.15am with Jim Henderson, who shortly before the midday ‘splash down’ will hand over to Ken Ross. Approaching 12 noon there will be a moment’s silence to remember those no longer with us.

“Hot food will be available from the burger van and first aid is looked after by Emergency Care Group. The Sea Cadet Headquarters once again, thanks to Willie Watters, is being used for registration and participants should follow the arrows directing to the correct area.

“The event couldn’t possibly take place without the help of The Sea Cadets, the safety team including divers, and of course the Orkney Rotary Club who have always been sterling supporters of CLIC Sargent. All we hope for now is good weather.”
