OIC appeal for information over fly tipping
Orkney Islands Council is appealing for information after several tyres were dumped outside the Recycling Centre at Hatston.
The tyres are though to have been deposited there sometime between 4pm on Sunday, March 2, and midday on Monday, March 3.
Orkney Islands Council Environmental Health Manager David Brown said: “It is unacceptable to deposit any type of waste outside the recycling centre. We are appealing for anyone who witnessed this to contact Environmental Health and provide as much detail as possible to help us find whoever is responsible.”
It is an offence to deposit controlled waste or knowingly cause controlled waste to be dumped on any land without a licence. Fly tipping is a serious offence that can result in a Fixed Penalty Notice of £50, rising to £200 from April 1 2014, or prosecution. Prosecution may lead to a fine of up to £40,000 and or six months’ imprisonment.

A small amount of tyres from domestic use will be accepted at the recycling centre but to those looking arrange disposal of larger amounts must contact the Council.
