OIC chief urges restraint while bullying claims are investigated
The chief executive of the OIC has called for restraint while staff claims of “bullying behaviour” at Stromness Academy are investigated.
In a statement released this afternoon, Alistair Buchan said: “We can confirm that concerns have been raised. At this point in time, all affected parties have been written to in order to acknowledge receipt of the letter and let them know that appropriate action is being taken.
“Orkney Islands Council takes the wellbeing of all its staff and service users, including pupils, very seriously. In situations such as this, it’s important that the council takes time to investigate matters in a full and fair manner, supporting all the parties involved and giving them an opportunity to express their own views as part of the process.”
He added: “The school also needs to be in a position to operate as normal. This is particularly important as our young people take their national exams. In the interests of all parties, and in particular the school and the pupils, we ask for a period of restraint while matters are addressed.
“While it will remain the council’s policy – in line with most employers – not to comment on internal staffing matters, further statements, appropriate to the public domain, will be provided as soon as it is possible to do so.”
