OIC committee visits Shapinsay
A day-long visit to Shapinsay yesterday provided members of Orkney Islands Council’s development and infrastructure committee with an “invaluable” opportunity to discuss issues important to the local community.
A session with staff and pupils at Shapinsay primary school was followed by talks with the island’s Development Trust and then a public meeting at the school attended by 24 residents.
Committee vice-chairman, Councillor Graham Sinclair, said: “There is no better way to engage with the local community than to meet folk face to face and listen to what they have to say.
“Throughout the day we took part in some excellent discussions that have left us with a far greater understanding of the issues that matter to people in Shapinsay.”
