OIC half-bin policy coming to an end

In response to public feedback, Orkney Islands Council is changing its recycling collection policy.

Householders now have the option of being  able to put their two green recycling bins out for collection, even if they are less than half-full.

The previous “half-bin policy” meant that the bins wouldn’t be emptied if they were only half-full.  This, said the council, was originally intended to reduce the effort for residents and OIC staff, by waiting until bins were more than half-full before emptying.

The change in policy came about following feedback from staff and a resident’s survey and will come into force immediately.
