OIC proposes package to ensure continued access to abattoir facilities
Orkney Islands Council has agreed a package of measures to help ensure an orderly winding up of Orkney Meat Limited, while the company remains solvent.
The proposals, agreed at a meeting of the full council on Tuesday afternoon, will now be put to the board of OML, which recently announced its decision to close the company.
OIC chief executive Albert Tait said: “If agreed by the board, this will mean that interim arrangements can be put in place to make sure Orkney’s farmers and local butchers have continued access to abattoir facilities in the short term.”
