Open day at Deerness buffalo farm
Orkney’s buffalo farm is opening to the public tomorrow, as part of Open Farm Sunday – a national initiative to let the public see, firsthand, how food is grown and produced and talk to the farmers responsible.
Schoolhouse Farm, in Deerness, will be one of hundreds of farms across the country hosting events.
The free event promises attendees a chance to meet and find out about Schoolhouse’s water buffalo herd and Jacob flock, including this year’s lambs. There will also be a “peedie producers” market, with arts, crafts and food produced from in and around Deerness.
There will also be displays of vintage tractors and farm implements, and of crafts such as spinning.
Russell Bremner, from Schoolhouse Farm, said: “There is a lot to celebrate about farming and food – so come and join us on Open Farm Sunday and find out more!
“My family and I are really looking forward to welcoming everyone and showing them around the farm.”
The event runs from 11am until 5pm.
