Operating theatre remains closed after flood

The operating theatre in the Balfour Hospital remains shut down this week, and patients told not to attend surgery appointments, after a fractured pipe directly above the theatre caused serious water damage on Friday.

The leak  has resulted in several planned procedures being postponed.

As the clean up operation continues NHS Orkney said that emergencies would be transferred ‘off island’ in the meantime, and an emergency theatre was set up for anyone not fit to travel.
