Orkney athletes prepare for Bermuda Opening Ceremony
The 15th International Island Games is due to be officially  opened in Bermuda this evening.
The Opening Ceremony, to be held at the National Stadium in Hamilton, the capital of Bermuda, begins at 7pm Atlantic Daylight Time (ADT) which is four hours behind Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).
The Orkney flag bearer at the ceremony will be experienced member of the golf team Stewart Fotheringhame, while young swimmer Eleise Schofield will act as the representative water carrier.
Orkney are sending a 30 strong contingent competing across a range of sports — athletics, cycling, golf, sailing, swimming, squash and triathlon.
Bermuda is the first Island Games to be held outside of Europe and almost 2,000 athletes are due to compete during the week-long event.
The competition is due to begin tomorrow, with several Orkney sportspeople due to begin their quests for medals. The Orkney team arrived in Bermuda earlier in the week.
