Orkney celebrates Norwegian Constitution Day
Today, Wednesday, Orkney joined in the annual celebrations to mark Norwegian Constitution Day.
Following a remembrance service at the Norwegian war graves in St Olaf Cemetery, the annual “Tog” parade set off from the Kirkwall pierhead at noon. Led by members of the Kirkwall City Pipe Band, it made its way through Bridge Street and Albert Street to the Kirk Green.
There, carrying out his first civic duty as OIC convener, Councillor Harvey Johnston introduced Norway’s deputy ambassador to the UK, Ragnhild Imerslund, who made a speech summing up the significance of the day’s events.
