Orkney Dons set for cup final

Orkney will be well represented at this weekend’s Scottish Communities League Cup final — with more than 200 Aberdeen FC fans expected to travel south for the event.

A total of 184 tickets were sold through the local supporters’ club, and Orkney Dons chairman Greig Rorie said he was aware of a number of other fans who are not supporters’ club members who would also be heading down to cheer on their team.

Mr Rorie said he believed it to be the biggest travelling support from Orkney for an Aberdeen match, with some fans heading off tonight, and many more travelling south tomorrow.

Aberdeen face Inverness Caledonian Thistle in Sunday’s final, which is due to be played at Celtic Park in Glasgow, at 2.30pm.

Aberdeen sold their entire 40,000 allocation for the final, which is the Dons’ first major final for 14 years.
