Orkney farmers’ union elect new chairman
At the NFU Scotland Orkney branch AGM, yesterday evening, East Mainland farmer Brian Moss was elected unopposed as chairman.
Mr Moss, who farms at Ocklester in Holm, held the post of vice-chairman last term, and replaces outgoing chairman Kevan Harvey, of Vestrafiold in Quoyloo, who has spent two years in the top seat.
Following his appointment, Mr Moss said: “Thank you for your confidence in offering me this job. It is a great honour to represent Orkney in the NFU.
“Way back when I was asked to be on the East Mainland committee I never imagined I’d be in this position.
“I hope to carry out this term working hard for Orkney farmers as best I can.”
Mr Moss also praised the commitment of outgoing chairman Mr Harvey.
“He’s been outstanding and a pleasure to work alongside,” he said.
Sandwick farmer Paul Ross, of Lenahowe, will now step into Mr Moss’s former role as he takes on the position of branch vice-chairman.
