Orkney FC are set to travel to Thurso this weekend, with ambitions of retaining the Ness Cup firmly in their minds.

The islanders won an historic first piece of silverware last term and now have the opportunity to make it back-to-back Ness Cup victories as they prepare to take on Invergordon in the final, due to be played at The Dammies at 2.15pm on Saturday afternoon.

Invergordon caused an upset to reach the final, beating North Caledonian League champions Halkirk United, while Orkney beat Thurso to set up the final clash. Both sides shared a win each during the league campaign, and the final looks likely to be a highly competitive and closely fought contest.

Manager Charlie Alway said that competing for silverware was something that everyone should be savouring.

“All of us that are involved in football, or any sport really, you want to win things and have a little bit of silverware along the way. If you’re competing for cups and hopefully winning them, it kind of says you must be doing something right. It shows that generally the travel is in the right direction.

“We want to win it, our name’s on it, and we would love to defend it.”
